Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (the “Company”) has acquired new land and facilities in the immediate vicinity of the corporate headquarters (Shingai, Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture). The purpose of the acquisitions is to accommodate growth in Company divisions including the IM*1 and SPV*2 business units. The close proximity of the facilities to the Company’s headquarters will also be leveraged to increase the efficiency of inter-divisional procurement, manufacturing, research and development and logistics operations and promote other synergistic effects.
The newly acquired land and facilities (Myogashima, Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture) include an office building and factory on grounds with a land area of 46,000 m2. The purchase contract was signed in March 2011 and plans call for transfer of the facilities to Yamaha Motor to be complete by October of this year.
The new facilities will provide space required for expanding production of the surface mounters and industrial robots by the Company’s IM Business Unit*1 (moving from Naka-ku, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture) and space for development operations required by the Smart Power Vehicle Business Unit*2 in its efforts to achieve further growth for its electrically power assisted bicycles (PAS) and other product lines in October. Possibilities for use by other divisions are also being considered.
IM (Intelligent Machinery) Business Unit is a division involved primarily in the manufacture and sales of surface mounters, industrial robots and electric wheelchairs.
Smart Power Vehicle Business Unit is a division involved primarily in the product planning and development of electrically power assisted bicycles (PAS).
